"Spy Camp" By Stuart Gibbs (Faisal A)
Introduction:
Hello guys! As promised, I am going to talk about Spy Camp. Spy Camp is the sequel of the first book in the Spy School Series, Spy School. It was written in 2013, a year after the first book. I believe this book is better than the first. Well, this is because the first book has more information to give an introduction of the setting and gives a familiarity to the protagonist, Ben Ripley. In addition, this book has way more adventure, action, and horror than the last, which makes this book very thrilling (an aspect that the author is very great at exceeding it). Most of the stuff I have to say to you is going to be a little bit repetitive (unless you haven't read my previous posts, which I highly recommend you to read them), so that's why this blog post if going to be a bit shorter than the others.
As I have mentioned before, the first book has astonished me (and Gibbs' writings, in general), so I wanted to give it a shot, and read the sequel. However, for some reason, I had this instinct that this book was going to be a little boring, with the silhouette of a spy wearing shorts and sandals (an abnormal uniform for spies, in general). I would not read the book's summary since it does not relate at all to the unexpecting plot. It's almost like it's useless, but I don't know what was his intention. Before reading, I thought this book was about Ben just enjoying his summer from his first semester of spy school in an ordinary camp. But it turns out, I was wrong! (Dramatic sound effects: DIN DUN DUN!!) 😱
Summary:
Ben Ripely, soon to be a thirteen-year-old, captured a member of the evil organization, SPYDER. The criminal was supposed to go jail. Later, Ben received another death threat from SPYDER, and many other spies were around him for protection. Ben tried enjoying his couple of days before being obligated by Spy School to go to Spy Camp during the summer. He was playing at an arcade place with his old friend, Mike. While playing, Ben captured a glimpse of that same criminal wandering around. Ben soon tries to "re-capture" him. The other spies have told him to not worry because the criminal was at jail. I was, honestly, bewildered, how would that criminal be in two places at the same time? Ben had to keep everything confidential, except with the higher-ups of the CIA. It was up to him to find out what precisely had happened. He gets himself in many life-threating situations to stop SPYDER's wicked plan.
Review:
I highly recommend this book to you. Spy Camp's intriguing plot, that is full of mysteries, adventures, and comedy, really surprised me, especially how SPYDER laid their plan out. The book has a great ending, and with a cliff hanger. That alone was one of the reasons why I am certainly continuing reading the series (I felt eager to know what happened!) If you enjoyed the first book, and you're unsure what to read next, then, READ Spy Camp! I would rate this book a 4.5/5!
I hope you guys enjoyed reading this month's entry! Hang in there, just a couple weeks for Thanksgiving break! Thank you! 😉
